FIRST AQUACULTURE EXPERIENCE OF YELLOWFIN SNOOK FISH (Centropomus robalito) IN GUATEMALA

Snooks fishes have been identified as promises species for aquaculture, due to this, here we report the first aquaculture results of the yellowfin snook ('Centropomus robalito') from an experiment that aimed to assess growth in a water recirculating system for 92 days. The fishes were introduced with an average weight and length of 13.38 ± 6.61 g and 10.72 ± 1.65 cm. Then, they were fed with white shrimp and freshwater prawn (50 % : 50 %), and in the third month, they were fed with white shrimp and a balanced feed of 35 % crude protein for shrimp (75 % : 25 %). The final average weight and length were 27.36 ± 10.40 g and 14.15 ± 1.90 cm, respectively. The results suggest that this species has slow growth, but it is within the average reported for the same genre in other countries.
